The current Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has laid out a massive plan of ₹2,415 crore to boost the tourism industry of the state. The intended goal for implementing this strategy shall primarily serve to increase the physical characteristics of tourist attractions, raise economic potential, and create new jobs in the area.
During a routine meeting of the review meeting on the tourism department in Shimla, the Chief Minister enumerated the government’s goals of putting the tourism business back on track to become one of the most important sources of income in the state of Himachal.
Major Projects That Fall Under the Tourism Investment
Himachal Pradesh is set to launch several key projects to enhance its tourism and cultural appeal:
Development of Shiv Dham in Mandi: Shiv Dham would cost ₹150.27 crore and would go a long way in establishing spiritual and cultural importance, boosting religious tourism.
Beautification of Religious Sites: Hamirpur’s Baba Balak Nath temple will be developed for ₹51,70,00,000, enhancing more devotees to visit.
Infrastructure Upgrades in Kangra: Outlay of ₹78.09 crore will improve infra facilities in Nagrota Bagwan and Palampur to boost tourism.
Focus on Wellness and Adventure Tourism
A project in Nadaun, Nagrota Bagwan, Kullu, and Manali with a total amount of ₹280.39 crore will be built. New directions in tourist activities would be developed through a rafting complex to be constructed at Nadaun and skating rinks at Manali, Dharamsala and Shimla out of ₹163.50 crore.These measures are intended to put the state on a map for religious, cultural, and adventure tourism.

Projects pertaining to the conservation of heritage sites
Conservation of heritage structure will include Naggar Castle at Kullu for which ₹ 8.64 crore has been provided under this head. Thus, it would clearly signify that the Himachal Pradesh government is serious about preserving the cultural wealth of the state.
To make the state more accessible, the government is prioritizing air connectivity through heliports and helicopter services. Heliports in Sanjauli, Rampur (Shimla district), Kangani Dhar (Mandi district), and Baddi (Solan district) are expected to be operational soon, pending authorization from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Additionally, plans for drone stations and regular flights on the Dharamsala-Shimla route are in the pipeline.
This comprehensive investment in tourism infrastructure is expected to create thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly. From construction and hospitality to adventure tourism and air services, various sectors will benefit from this initiative.
