The hospitality sector in West Bengal will undergo major changes because 40 luxury hotels will be built during the upcoming two years. The state displays determination to develop its tourism foundation by constructing 40 new luxurious hotels to make itself an attractive destination for luxury tourism in India.
Private players, together with state government officials, have developed a business plan for luxury hotel growth through targeted locations including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Lataguri (Dooars), Digha, the Sundarbans, Shantiniketan and Raichak. Through this venture, the establishment of around 600 luxurious hotel rooms is planned while officials project INR 1,200 crore worth of investments. Taj Hotels functions as a major brand that leads the implementation of vast hospitality development initiatives.
Two major convention hotels are currently undergoing development in Kolkata and Siliguri, through which 800 new hotel rooms will become available. The development of these convention centers will demand INR 1,500 crore investments while they aim to drive business tourism throughout West Bengal.

The Department of Tourism in West Bengal attracts investment interest from substantial hospitality organization groups. ITC Hotels has gained control over Welcomhotel Kalimpong through a management agreement to operate this upscale 70-key establishment, which enables visitors to enjoy Himalayan mountain vistas. The existing real estate property in Kurseong’s Darjeeling Hills territory will become “Allita: an Atmosphere Experience” under Atmosphere Core’s development project.
Lemon Tree Hotels has also joined the wave, announcing a new resort in Mirik, a picturesque hill station. The Lemon Tree Resort is set to open by FY 2028, further enhancing tourism in the region. Meanwhile, the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of Taj Ganga Kutir Resort & Spa in Raichak, featuring 155 luxurious rooms with riverside views and multiple dining options.

Marriott’s Strategic Expansion in the Region

These hotels, spread across Jharkhand and West Bengal, will add over 700 rooms to Marriott’s portfolio in India.
