India made history by winning their third Champions Trophy 2025 crown through a dramatic four-wicket triumph against New Zealand in yesterday’s match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
India successfully collected 251 runs to win the match when the Men in Blue completed their chase with only six balls remaining. India now stands as the most successful tournament winner in Champions Trophy history after achieving their third win and their previous victories in 2013, followed by a co-win with Sri Lanka in 2002.
Spin to Win
In this final match, the Indian spinners performed masterfully as their efforts remained largely unrecognized. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy combined for two overs of high-quality cricket to limit New Zealand at a pivotal time during the game. The selectors made a wise decision to select Chakravarthy for the playing XI because he delivered excellent bowling discipline.
Chakravarthy expressed tremendous joy about his last-minute inclusion in the team, while the match result represented the fulfillment of his dreams.
Captain’s Knock
The Indian batting line-up required a robust beginning to conquer 252 and Rohit Sharma provided exactly what the team needed. The 76 runs from Rohit destroyed the opposition foundation before an intense battle emerged. During the middle game phase, Shreyas Iyer scored a vital 48 to maintain continuous run scoring.
After this win, I am overwhelmed so much that no words can express what I feel. Iyer expressed a deep sense of joy because winning this trophy represented his first-ever ICC tournament and he had few words to describe his feelings. I perform best when pressure hits because I feel powerful under such conditions.
Redemption for Pandya
For all-rounder Hardik Pandya, this victory held special significance after the heartbreak of the 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan.
“It’s always amazing to win an ICC tournament, especially the Champions Trophy. 2017 was close to my heart. We couldn’t finish the job that time,” stated Pandya.
India’s third Champions Trophy title is not just a testament to their skills but also to their mental fortitude—truly worthy champions indeed.
